South African Masters Athletics Championships success!
South African Masters Athletics Championships 2010 report from Tim Stones
"I competed in the South African Masters Athletics Championships this weekend (Friday and Saturday).
I competed in the 800m on Friday morning finishing in 3rd place for a hard fought Bronze medal. On the Friday afternoon I ran in the 5000m finishing in 2nd place for a well-earned Silver medal.
After a good nights sleep at 8:30am on Saturday morning I competed in the 10 000m finishing in 1st place winning the GOLD medal!! I am the 2010 South African 30-34 age group 10 000m Champion! At 11:45am on Saturday I ran the 1500m, winning another well-earned Bronze medal. I was also asked during the Championship to represent Boland "B" in the 4*100m relay on the Saturday afternoon.
All in all over the 2 days I competed in 5 races winning 1 GOLD, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. I am very happy with my first experience of "mainstream" National Athletics Championship. I also made South African history, by becoming the first deaf person to win a medal at the SA Masters Athletics Championships!"
I was awarded the Boland Athletics provincial colours, when representing the province at the recent South African Masters Athletics Championships in Cape Town. I was awarded full provincial colours.
