Blackwell wins British Unequipped Bench Press Championships 2008

News...

Deaf UK Athletics’ newest athlete David Blackwell won the British Unequipped Bench Press Championships 2008 with a magnificent lift of 145kg at a body weight of only 81.2kg!

Blackwell said “My first lift was 145kg, however prior to the competition my shoulder was giving me grief so was not entirely sure how I would perform. I still tried a second lift weighting 150kg, unfortunately my shoulder refused to co-operate, and then again on the third lift of 150kg”.

By the end of the competition, no other lifter could beat the 145kg first lift, and so Blackwell was crowded the British Champion. It is the first time a deaf person has won this event at his bodyweight. Well done Dave.
