DUKA Training Weekend 25-27 July Rescheduled

News...

As a result of many requests, DUKA has to announce that the Training Session planned for 25th to 27th July 2008 has been rescheduled to 19th-20th July 2008. Many athletes, their families, friends and coaches are keen to attend the UK Athletics Crystal Palace Grand Prix Athletics competition in London that same weekend.

This rescheduled date (19th-20th July) is perfectly ideal. Outwood Grange College Sports Partnership under the leadership of DUKA Coach Rebecca Foster and in association with Deaf UK Athletics and England Athletics will be hosting a Deaf Athletics Talents Day. DUKA will be working together in this event and strongly encourages all GB deaf athletes to attend and anyone wishing to join GB team for future international events.

19th-20th July will take place in Sheffield Institute of Sports arena. Arrivals on Friday 18th July.

• On the 26th June 2008, the Yorkshire Deaf Athletics Championships will take place in Hull

• The top 3 students (or those judged to be extremely talented) from each event held on the 26th June to be invited to the English Institute of Sport in on 19th July, in Sheffield.

• DUKA Director, Brian Kokoruwe will give an inspirational presentation on the previous Deaflympics and forthcoming athletics competitions This presentation is to highlight the opportunities to the athletes and to celebrate the achievements of the deaf/hard of hearing community.

• Athletes to split up into event groups, sprints/distance/throws/jumps. High quality coaches will give these athletes a practical session and coaching on their events. Thereby giving the athletes a vision/target to take back to their coach or indeed link with their local athletics club.

• Over lunch, Rebecca Foster would provide a nutrition talk for parents whilst the athletes network with each other.

• GB Deaf Athletes will be available to give short talk on their pathway from grassroots to elite.

• There will be DUKA photo exhibition

• GB athletes will be able to train either on the 19th or 20th July (or both) using the World Class facilities of the Don Valley Stadium.

• Talented deaf athletes might be able to qualify for the Deaflympics through this event if they show the talents and abilities
